I’m Hugh and here’s how I see it: there is beauty everywhere you look. The catch is, you’ve gotta be looking at things the right way, and that can be kinda tricky sometimes. But, that’s why I love taking pictures. The camera allows me to capture those moments of beauty and show them to other people. Whether it’s a bride’s blush when she first sees her groom, or a total stranger passing by on the street, I think it’s amazing what our world looks like. My hope, after all, is that somewhere, in one of my pictures, something speaks to you. Thanks for stopping by, and if you’d like to get in touch, you can drop me a line via the contact form on this blog or grab the contact info below. Talk to you soon.
Oh, and I'm based out of Southern California, but my passport's up to date :)

When something like the recent disaster in Haiti goes down, it’s kind of my thing to “ooh” and “ahh” and pity the lost and broken, and then do nothing about it. That’s heavy.
Thankfully, I’ve found myself in communities that inspire action. This time, it’s Switch Cities – a handful of wedding photographers from around the world. We’ve posted a number of prints to the blog and set up an auction to raise funds for the relief efforts in Haiti. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to charities active in Haiti right now.
This is a great opportunity to help ease the suffering in Haiti, and you’ll wind up with some amazing artwork while your at it. Take a look, place a bid, and tell your friends. There is something we can do. Thanks for looking.

- Way to be down for the cause Hugh. My friend's mom was in Haiti on a missions trip when the earthquake hit. He forwarded me an email she sent and it is pretty heavy what they are going through over there. Hope you sell a ton of prints...
- Great shot Hugh. I didn't see this when I was in Stockholm. What street/area was it in?
- Just got my print a couple days ago and love it. Can't wait to get it framed, but the nearest frame shop is about 5 hours away, so it may be awhile. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks.

Sara and I went to the Getty yesterday.
We tried.
It’s just that I don’t really think we’re much for art. The exhibits really are something, don’t get me wrong, but I have a hard time locking in and paying attention past the first three or so pieces of any given gallery. Blame it on the ADD. We all have it, right? Sara did a lot better job than I, until one of the museum attendants had to ask her stop spinning and sliding on the hardwood floor. Like I said, I don’t really think we’re much for art. Regardless, the Getty itself is right up my alley. I could spend all day wandering the grounds. The fierce aesthetic of the place matched with the human element about it just gets me. After ducking in and out of a couple exhibits, I had my chance to wander for a bit. This was a little of what I saw.
- Not much for art... from someone why says "The fierce aesthetic of the place matched with the human element"... hummmm....
- Ha, she has a point. You made the place look more amazing than it does in person. And the gallery dancing? Maybe I was just extremely inspired.
- i agree with both mollie and sara: you're def FOR art, at least some form it (i.e. the frames above) and your eye does sees things that the avg does not; some pretty amazing sights.
- I like the part of the story with the attendants ! Funny! Some greats photos in this post. The 1st and 4th are my favs. I love your personal work.
- My first engagement shoot was at the Getty, and after looking at your images, it is further proof that I will never ever post that session. Also...funny that not being much for art makes people like me want your not-art (above) on my wall, so I can stare at it.
- Maybe it's akin to not buying in to various genres of music. Doesn't mean you're not much for music. There's art of its own kind in hefty hewn blocks of stone; vision and endeavour that you've rendered evocatively here.
- Great capture on image 2, Hugh.
- i really like the getty. and these photos.
- You need your own section at the Getty of the Getty. Seriously, find the marketing person and email them your blog or make a few prints and just send them in. I'm sure they will put your work to good use.
- dude.
- I love the reflections.
My friends, Peter and Beth, got married today. It was my last wedding of 2009 and it was fully awesome. Here’s to 2010.
